Godsgift Nkechi Chukwuonye is an Environmental Science PhD student from Nigeria. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in Plant Biology and Biotechnology from the University of Benin, Nigeria where she focused on the phytoremediation of contaminated lands. Afterwards, she got a masters degree in Environment and Development from the University of Edinburgh, United Kingdom. Her life experiences, growing up in the oil-degraded regions of Niger Delta shapes her current research efforts in the field of Environmental Justice. Her PhD research is at the intersection of environmental contamination and public health focusing on the health effect of heavy metal contamination in indigenous and mining communities. Through this research, she hopes to connect with her roots by raising awareness and providing possible solutions to the environmental contamination issues many marginalized populations face.
